Fitness coaching is about you having structure, support, accountability and motivation. It’s about integrating a healthy approach to training and to your nutrition. I don’t believe in fad diets or gimmicky workouts.

I don’t believe in magic pills or the new cream that does x, y, z. I believe in training smart, in having the right tools and the right mindset. My coaching programs removes all the guess work. I don’t ever impose my own goals on a client. I’m not biased towards any specific training system.

What training system(s) will work for you are the ones that will get you results in the quickest and safest way possible. Let me give you all the information you need in a way that is simple to understand.

I’m not here only to count reps, in fact sometimes I don’t. I don’t want to train you, I want to teach you. I want to challenge you both mentally and physically. If you want to learn, if you want to work hard and have fun (sometimes it’s not) at the same time then my coaching program is for you.

The Secret To Personal Training Success

This is my client and friend Daniel. I think he’s done a pretty amazing job over the last couple of months.

He started at 205 lbs (about 20% body fat) and now he’s at 188 lbs (about 16% body fat). He trained hard and used a meal prep service throughout the week to help him stay on track.

On day one of working together he could only do 1 Pull-up, and now he’s at 9 unassisted.

I’m about to let you in in a little secret.

The secret to personal training success is not the client. It is not me. Success depends heavily on the relationship, partnership and effort between both.

If I give my client meaningful advice and insights and he or she does not act upon it, then most likely the results won’t be significant.

In the other hand, If the client is committed and willing to do the work but I give him poor advice and training.

Then that will also yield a poor outcome.

before and after

“I decided to work with a trainer extensively on one of my most recent engagements in Miami. I worked with a gentleman named Juan Lugo. Juan has a website, and I would encourage all of you to check it out.

If you’re in Miami and are interested, contact him. He’s terrific. He was focused like a laser on building me a good training program that emphasized my needs and optimized the assets I already brought to the table (I had done some training before so it’s wasn’t a total beginner’s course).

Juan himself is in top physical condition and he doesn’t look just like a block of muscle. He looks lean, trim, fit, and and beautifully sculpted…perhaps a wise look for which singers should aim. My goals included more body conditioning, more toning, a higher level of strength, and learning more about what I can do on the gym floor when I’m alone and don’t have a trainer.

Add to that the ability to not have any tension in my workouts that I didn’t have before. We worked 45-50 minutes four times a week for about two months and largely, trained using body weight exercises, plank exercises, TRX suspension training and some resistance training (weights).

Juan and I worked great together, it was a joy to train with him and I can’t wait to do more when I get the chance.”

“When I met Juan, I had just had back to back kids and was about 10 pounds overweight. I was beginning to get back into running but suffering from knee pain due to a meniscal tear in my knee from a previous injury in college.

I had taken awhile off of training as a result of having two kids and when I returned to running, my body wasn’t as strong as it used to be. Once I began to train with Juan, things changed. Every week Juan would switch up my training sessions so creatively that I actually looked forward to every session. He would also make minor tweaks each week that would challenge me even more.

After about 6 months of training with Juan, I not only lost the baby weight but I came back even stronger and leaner than I had before kids. He helped me strengthen my legs so well that I have been able to run over 10 half marathons and suffer from zero knee pain.

I am currently training for my first Ironman and competing in triathlons at a level I never believed possible. Juan not only has amazing creativity with his workouts, he also has an inherent knowledge of movement and knows just how to challenge someone, just enough.

His workouts are not cookie cutter or the typical routine you see at most fitness clubs. He uses a number of different approaches to challenge you and make you functionally stronger. He truly cares about what he does and how he influences his clients. He truly lives and breathes an amazing healthy lifestyle of which influences all of those around him.”

“After training for two years with a personal trainer in New York City, I was afraid I wasn’t going to find someone who would both understand me and push me to my limits in the same way in Miami.

Fortunately for me, I found Juan online and decided he was the appropriate person to train with, and boy was I right. Juan is not only a great person but he’s a knowledgeable athlete and trainer. He knows what muscle parts he’s making you work and he makes sure that your exercises are done in a safe and effective manner. My time with him saw me constantly progress and reach new levels of fitness.

Furthermore this guy takes his time designing a specific workout plan that caters to each individual client, he works with you and helps you reach your goals. Although I had to go back to New York after two months, I saw a noticeable increase in my strength and muscle mass and a drop in my fat percentage, proving that my journey to my ideal body is ever closer thanks to him.

I’d recommend him 10 times out of 10.”

I combine an aggressive exercise program that covers strength, endurance, mobility, power and flexibility. A well rounded nutrition plan with positive lifestyle behaviors and you have all the elements needed for successful results. I believe fitness should be fun. If you are having fun you forget you are working out.

Yes I do.

I am not a licensed nutritionist. I can’t recommend exact caloric intake. But I can guide you in making intelligent food choices and how and when to combine these foods.

I dislike the word “diet”. Dieting feels like a chore. There are many eating plans that work. But what works for me, might not work for you and vice versa. You should familiarize yourself with what good foods you can eat that tastes good for you. Try to eat with a purpose, eat for function. For example, eating a white bagel or white rice has little to no value. Yes you might like the way it taste and it can briefly satisfy you but it serves no purpose but to spike your sugar levels high and get you fatter. You can transform your body on a low carb diet, on a low carb-high protein diet, on a paleo diet, on a vegetarian diet, on a vegan diet. All diets have their pros and cons. Experiment with different diets and plug in what works for you and see what is conducive to your lifestyle. One reason why programs fail is that people are not aware of all they eat throughout the day, which quickly adds up.

Yes, I offer specialized classes centered around kettlebell training and the basics of Animal Flow. These sessions are typically only 30 minutes long.

Yes, I travel to you. Almost all my clients live in apartments or condos with access to a gym. If you don’t have access to a gym of your own, I can train you at a gym in Downtown, Miami.

The better someone nourishes there body with really good foods, the less they will need supplements. And it is important to understand that the supplement industry is not really regulated. There’s a lot of over-priced supplements out there with too much junk in them. However there are a few I would highly recommend like Fish Oil, I like this brand a lot. I’ve been taking it for years now. Fish Oil contains Omega 3s, it improves brain function, it supports your immune system and it has anti-inflammatory properties. It contains DHA and EPA, which are essential to fighting and preventing both physical and mental disease.

Of course, consult a doctor to see if it’s ok for you to take some regularly.

  • 2

    The Warm Up

Walking on the treadmill is not a warm up. Prime your muscles, joints and nervous system with dynamic movements.

    The Strength Portion

No matter your goals, age or sex, building a solid foundation of strength is crucial for long term success.

  • 4

The conditioning portion of the workouts is a great way to burn off extra energy we commonly refer to as stored body fat. This part of the workout will sometimes be composed of high intensity aerobic work.
